Mentoring with H.O.P.E.
Heart & Home Ministries has provided mentoring and educational services for children at-risk both locally and internationally for years.
The H.O.P.E. Mentoring Program was developed by Heart and Home Ministries, and the program was successfully tested at Advantage Academy ISD, with 3 locations in North Texas.
This two step program begins with the one-on-one mentoring method, where students are paired with caring adults who spend time with them twice a month. They help them with homework, or just provide a listening ear.
In the second part of the program, the student progresses to group mentoring, where they develop friendships and confidence.
-
HELP. Beginning with a one-on-one mentoring relationship between a caring adult, there is consistent support and guidance.
-
OVERCOME. In the one-on-one mentoring situation, the adult influences the young person's life in an encouraging and caring way for growth.
-
PROPEL. Mentored students join with other mentored students, working together to develop friendship.
-
EMPOWER. Together, mentored stucents develop confidence in themselves and others, revealing their own potential.
Mentors, usually volunteers, have always been recognized as some of the most important influences in young people’s lives, helping them to achieve educational or career goals, and enhancing their awareness of and belief in their own potential.
